Hello JP,

I don’t think it’s still published but managed to find a single copy in a Google library search in south Yarra. Worth renting for sure.

Fascinating, but what’s actually inside the glazed circular tower at the top? Can’t make it out from street level. :)

Hi Wal33,

Thanks for your question; it’s a question we get asked about a lot as it’s the key design feature most people remember and identify with the Moonbria building over everything else, so thanks for commenting.

The top of the west facing tower, (the glazed dome you see front-on from Mathoura road) contains all the lift mechanisms including pulleys and the main drive motor that powers the circular elevator it services beneath.

It goes without saying that the view from this glazed dome across Melbounre is sensational

Hello Moonbria website,
My wide snd I have by your building for years, contemplating the exact same question; so this finally solves the riddle. It’s a real shame Grounds didn’t make it an observation deck reminiscent of the monolithic cbd glass tower new builds of today. Perhaps Moonbria owners at large could consider this as a additional revenue source to fund the elevator restoration?

Hello Moonbria,
My wife and I have passed by your building many times asking this exact same question, so thank you Rowena, this finally gives us a solution to the riddle.
We’ve often thought it was a shame that Grounds himself didn’t design it as an observation deck similar to Eureka towers and the monolithic Southbank glass structures dotted around Melbourne that are making spurious amounts of cash from tourists. Perhaps this is a revenue source that the owners could consider; to co-fund the lift restoration? Keep up the blogs, it’s always a good read for us.

    What is it?
    Unit 17 is a super cosy one bedroom top floor that is  currently for lease.

    Why we like it.
    The top floor has a distinct "Art Deco cruise liner"  feel with it's slim steel common area support pillars and it's white wood-paneled roof.
    It's very cool.

    Oh and...
